Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is 300 hectares of flower fields, playgrounds and cycle paths on the sandbar across Hakata Bay, and it costs ¥450 (~$3) to enter, free for junior high and under. This is where Fukuoka's nemophila grows in spring, not Nokonoshima, whatever the listicles say. Rent a bike (¥600 / ~$4 for three hours in spring and autumn) because the park is not walkable end-to-end. Next door, Marine World runs a 7-metre-deep shark tank: ¥2,500 (~$16.67) adults, ¥1,200 (~$8) children. Today's hours for both are on the Directions (Google Maps) link. Arrive by ferry from Momochi and the day gets better.
The blue-flower field everyone puts on the wrong island
The correctionNemophila — baby blue eyes — is a Fukuoka spring signature, and it grows here, on the sandbar, not on Nokonoshima.
The mix-up is everywhere in English travel writing: a photo of a blue nemophila field captioned Nokonoshima. Nokonoshima's spring flower is rapeseed — the big yellow canola field — and its signature season is cosmos in October and November. The nemophila is at Uminonakamichi, along with tulips, narcissus, roses, hydrangeas, sunflowers, its own cosmos and roughly 2,000 cherry trees that peak in late March and early April. If you're planning a trip around one blue photograph, you want this park and you want April.
The scale is the thing to plan for. Three hundred hectares is not a stroll — hire a bike at the gate, ¥600 (~$4) for three hours in March–May and September–November or ¥500 (~$3.35) for a whole day in summer and winter (no reservations), and the park turns from a slog into the nicest cycling in the city. There's an animal forest with capybara and kangaroos, a large play zone, and a summer Sunshine Pool charged separately. TripAdvisor's reviewers rate it as highly as anything in Fukuoka.
Marine World next door is the other half of the day: a 7-metre-deep main tank with more than 120 shark species and varieties — one of Japan's biggest shark collections — plus dolphin and sea-lion shows and a Kyushu-focused local marine section. ¥2,500 (~$16.67) adults, ¥1,200 (~$8) elementary and junior high, ¥700 for ages 3 and up, ¥2,200 for 65 and over. Park, aquarium and a bike comes to about ¥3,550 (~$23.65) an adult for a genuinely full day.

The ferry is the fun part and it turns two half-days into one good day: the Tower and the gold seal in the morning, boat across after lunch. Sailings run about every two hours, so check the return time before you buy a park ticket at 15:30.

Should I take the train or the ferry?
Ferry if you're already at Momochi — 20 minutes from the Marizon pier for ¥1,200 (~$8), sailing roughly every two hours, and the crossing is genuinely the nicest part of the day. Train if you're starting from Hakata: about 40 minutes and ¥560 (~$3.75) via Kashii.
Do I need to rent a bike?
Effectively yes. The park runs to about 300 hectares and is not walkable end to end; rentals are ¥600 (~$4) for three hours in March–May and September–November or ¥500 (~$3.35) for the day in summer and winter, and they can't be reserved — expect a wait for returns at peak times. Families with small children can walk the play-zone end and skip it.
Is Marine World worth it?
For families, clearly — a 7-metre-deep tank with over 120 shark species and varieties, plus dolphin and sea-lion shows. For adults travelling without children it's a decent aquarium, not a reason to cross the bay on its own.

Can I combine it with anything else?
Shikanoshima is on the same sandbar by causeway — bus or bike from the park — which puts the gold seal's discovery site within reach: the islands verdict. Or ferry back to Momochi for sunset: Momochi & Seaside.
Is it a good rainy-day option?
Only the aquarium is, and it's 40 minutes away in the rain. Save it: the covered options are closer and better on a wet day, ranked at rainy-day Fukuoka and Fukuoka with kids.
