A Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks game is the most culturally distinctive thing you can do in this city after eating, and seats start at ¥1,900 (~$12.65) face value. They are the reigning Japan Series champions — they beat the Hanshin Tigers 4–1 in October 2025 — and they won the 2026 Pacific League by 12 games. The regular season is over: the Hawks host the Climax Series Final Stage at Mizuho PayPay Dome from 14 October 2026 (up to six games, to 19 October), and a Japan Series only if they win it. After that, the next home games are in spring 2027. Budget 3–4 hours and sit behind the infield to hear the chanting.
A city with no marquee monument has one unarguable night

Fukuoka's attractions are cheap, small and pleasant. Its baseball is none of those things — it is loud, enormous and world-class, and it is the one evening here that no other Japanese city does better. The Hawks took the 2025 Japan Series 4–1 over Hanshin, clinching in Game 5 on 30 October, their 12th title and their first in five years, with Hotaka Yamakawa named Series MVP after home runs in three consecutive games. In 2026 they won the pennant at a .650 clip, 12 games clear of Seibu. You are not watching a provincial side.
The atmosphere is closer to European football than to American baseball. Every batter has his own ouenka — a personal chant, sung by his whole section, with trumpets and a conductor standing on a rail. Beer arrives via the uriko, students carrying pressurised kegs on their backs up and down the steps, which is a job that must destroy knees. The roof retracts on fine nights. If the Hawks win, the lights and fireworks go up and nobody leaves for twenty minutes.
Two honest notes. The seventh-inning jet-balloon release — thousands of screaming balloons launched at once — is the ritual everyone photographs, but balloon releases have been suspended at various points across Japanese baseball and we could not confirm the current rule at PayPay Dome; treat it as a bonus, not a promise. And you don't need to know the sport. You need a seat, a beer and three hours.

Easily, in season. The friction-free route has been a Klook voucher (about $24.49 when we last looked, in August 2026), which comes with an English checkout. The cheap route is the official Japanese-language site, which often wants a Japanese payment method. For the 2026 Climax Series, it's the club's own ticketing only.
Are the Hawks in the 2026 playoffs?
Yes. They won the 2026 Pacific League (91–49–3, 12 games ahead of Seibu) and host the Climax Series Final Stage at Mizuho PayPay Dome from 14 to 19 October, against whoever wins the 10–12 October First Stage between Seibu and Nippon-Ham. Win that, and they're in the Japan Series.
How much are tickets?
The club's 2026 dome table starts at ¥1,900 (~$12.65) for outfield reserved and the cheering section; infield reserved runs ¥2,500, ¥3,900 and ¥4,800 at base price, and box seats go up to ¥30,000 for six. Later advance and same-day sales use dynamic pricing, so a big game costs more. Online resellers add a markup on top.
Where should I sit?
Infield reserved, on the Hawks side, if you want the chanting — the ouenka sections and the trumpet corps sit behind the dugouts and the noise is the product. The outfield is cheaper and rowdier; the upper deck is quiet and fine if you just want to watch baseball.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks for a weekend, four to six for Hanshin or Nippon-Ham, and same-day is usually fine for a midweek game against a lower-drawing side. Golden Week, Obon and the summer Taka Matsuri series behave like festivals — so do the hotels: Fukuoka events.
How do I get to Mizuho PayPay Dome?
Tojinmachi Station on the Kūkō line, Exit 3, then about 15 minutes on foot — ¥260 (~$1.75) and roughly 10 minutes from Hakata Station. Buses run direct from Hakata and Tenjin and drop you closer. Full transit detail: getting around Fukuoka.
What if it rains?
