Fukuoka Tower's entrance fee is ¥1,000 (~$6.67) for anyone of high school age and up, ¥500 (~$3.35) for elementary and junior high students and ¥200 (~$1.35) for children 4 and over, per the tower's own price page — not the ¥800 that many English guides still print. It is 234 m of half-mirrored seaside tower with decks at 116 m, 120 m and 123 m; today's hours are on the Directions (Google Maps) link. Arrive half an hour before sunset and it's a good hour. Turn up at midday with a full itinerary waiting and it's the weakest ¥1,000 in the city.

TripAdvisor's reviewers put Fukuoka Tower below Ohori Park and below Kushida Shrine. Their complaints repeat: ¥1,000 for the height, a 20-minute walk from the nearest subway, and a low-rise city that reads as pleasant rather than dramatic from 123 m. The people who come away happy tend to share one habit: they went at the hour the tower is actually worth seeing.
The tower itself: 234 m, Japan's tallest seaside tower, built for the 1989 Asia-Pacific Expo and clad in some 8,000 half-mirrors that turn the whole thing into a fin of sky. Three levels — the 116 m deck, the 120 m café-and-dining level, and the 123 m top. The exterior lighting changes with the season after dark, and the bay below is the view you pay for.
The move that flips the verdict is timing. Arrive about 30 minutes before sunset and one ticket buys you daylight over Hakata Bay, golden hour, blue hour and the full night grid — four views for one fare. The official price page lists no passport or foreigner discount; the reductions it does list are ¥900 for Fukuoka-resident seniors and half price with a disability certificate.

What time should I go up?
About 30 minutes before sunset. Blue hour — the 20–30 minutes after the sun goes — is the photo window. For pure night views you can go later; check today's hours on the Directions (Google Maps) link before you set out.
Is there anything free nearby to pair it with?

Does the tower ever shut?
